Book Club Questions – The Stars Don’t Lie

  1. Who was your favorite teacher and how did they leave their mark on you?
  2. Did any events from your youth affect the rest of your life? Do you have wounds that need healing?
  3. Do you go to your high school reunions? Did you feel like you had something to prove?
  4. Are you still in touch with your best friend from high school?
  5. Do you know anyone who married their high school sweetheart? Did it last? Does it take a unique couple to make that work?
  6. Did Mary Beth remind you of Mrs. Cartwright? Did they play similar roles in Carver’s life?
  7. How did Carver’s experience on the Cartwright farm affect his life?
  8. Can a couple survive infidelity?
  9. Discuss Elliot, his life, and his impact on Carver. Carver’s father suggested the two previous best friends reconnect. Was he pushing it so Carver could see that happiness is not defined by accomplishments?
  10. One of the themes is that you are perfect as you are. Discuss.

  17. Carver Livingston has worked hard to overcome his past. He is a success in his field of veterinary medicine, yet he still seems to need emotional approval on all levels, especially his own. Have you ever felt this way? Why do you think we are most often our own worst critics?
